Workout on Vacay?

OK, so who’s with me? You’re getting ready to pack your suitcase for a little weekend getaway with the girls, or maybe that week long family vacation. There they are, staring at you. Your workout shoes. Do I throw in workout gear? Hmmmm. You go through all the scenarios in your head. ‘I mean, am I really going to have time to workout? Maybe I’ll just throw them in just incase? Uhg, but I don’t want to feel guilty for not using them?’

I get it! I love working out, but it’s also my ‘work’ so sometimes working out on vacation I like to get a little creative. YOGA is always in my back pocket. You don’t need the right shoes, or even clothes for that matter. You don’t even need that extra helping of motivation.

I love that yoga allows me to start small and listen to my body and see what it is I really need… vs what I think I SHOULD do.

Our quick vacay yoga session with Mandy was perfect! It was a simple “do anywhere” way for us to add some calm, relaxing, detox movements to our getway before we continued “re-toxing” by the pool. Loved it!!!

Case in point. This summer I had a girls trip to Napa Valley to celebrate my amazing bestie Heather. I could write a WHOLE other story on her and how she kicked cancers a$$. So you can see this trip is a celebration each year and we do not hold back on living it up.

Packing for this trip usually consists of a month of group texts ranging from who’s bringing what to what shoes and how many? We chat about the agenda, what day is pool day and what day is wine tasting. Then eventually it’s…. so are you bringing workout clothes?

My response was, I’ll be honest, I don’t see it happening, but lets plan a possible Yoga sesh. If it works great! If it doesn’t, no biggie.

Guess what? It happened. This is why I love yoga so much!! We grabbed some towels (on the morning after a glorious day that consisted of a shocking consumption of wine) and walked to a grassy patch. Water and Advil in hand we unanimously decided some kind of detox was necessary. We started small and then ended up with a great little session that got us moving and kicked off our day with smiles and a touch of sweat. Remember, it’s about moving your body and resetting yourself. Not necessarily going out for a 5 mile run.

Molly put it so perfectly, “My first foray into yoga again for a while and it awakened in me how wonderful it feels to use my body, stretch and be in such a peaceful and strong place…body, mind and soul.”

So here ya go! Below is our little Yoga class. Enjoy and remember vacation is just that. An opportunity to vacate our lives, and definitely not feel guilty for a missed workout.
